SharedSpace 911

PhAThECh (farr-th-ee-ch) was recently transferred to Sharedspace 911 from Negaspace 7391, and hasn’t yet fully acclimatized to an environment where he is surrounded by Humans. He is a specialist in mobile flora.

Brought up in a relatively poor family, PhAThECh was the only one of his five siblings to be sorted into the HOGPlETwA (scientist caste). Taunted by his HOGSwETwA (warrior caste) brothers, he developed an antisocial attitude and left home as soon as possible. He was educated by the Negaleg government and worked most weeknights in order to support himself. PhAThECh grew into a highly intelligent, weedy, self-sufficient and knowledgeable young Negaleg.

Graduating with honors in General Sciences at the age of twenty, PhAThECh spent seven years working as a lowly lab assistant on his home world in order to save enough HeuteMarks for a tour of neighboring solar systems. It was during this voyage that he began to express his interest in Botany, specifically the rare mobile species of plant, and wrote a thesis on the nutritional intake of one such species. Published in a small, relatively obscure scientific journal, the thesis caught the National Academy of Natural Philosophy’s collective eye. The Academy offered PhAThECh a scholarship, which he immediately took up. Though he didn’t actually receive a formal doctorate until forty two years of age, PhAThEch’s studies of mobile flora were regarded as the most comprehensive and definitive information available, and he is now a renowned authority on the subject.

Having failed to find himself a mate, this fifty year old bachelor is still seen as a disgrace by his elderly father, and he has not returned home to visit his family since he left his home world. Because of his scientific specialization and lack of family ties, PhAThECh has spent the past eight years on the Negaspace 7391 colonization project. This project was recently abandoned when one of the mobile cactus species being studied turned into rather large, aggressive and very difficult to destroy predator, rendering the planet unsuitable for colonization. PhAThECh has only been a colonist of Sharedspace 911 for three months, immersing himself in his work and essentially ignoring his colleagues.
